They touched on the latest scandal surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and the monarchy on Tuesday’s episode of The Jeremy Vine Show. Presenter Jeremy, 60, along with panellists Mary Loudon and Albie Amankona, asked: “Can Andrew overthrow the monarchy?”
In the latest update surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein debacle, Andrew is suspected of passing secret reports to the convicted sex offender while he was the government’s trade envoy. Buckingham Palace said King Charles expressed his “deep concern” about the allegations about Andrew and would “stand ready to provide support” if police were contacted about the allegations.
A Channel 5 viewer has backed Meghan Markle and suggested she is owed an apology for the treatment she received.
Zoe, from Birmingham, began: “I would like to start by saying that I would like to formally apologize to Meghan Markle on behalf of the British people. Because compared to what’s going on now, she wasn’t overthrowing the monarchy.”

Meghan and her husband Prince Harry resigned as senior royals in 2020. The Sussexes were frustrated by allegations of media interference, with Harry later stating that the “toxic environment” of royal life was part of the reason they left the UK for Montecito, California.
Zoe continued: “This looks to me like King Charles should abdicate.”
Jeremy questioned further: “Why are you defending Meghan?”
She commented: “Let’s be honest, the woman had eaten an avocado. Her husband said something to her that he thought was racist. He wasn’t in the room, he bullied her for eight years. He said he was going to bring down the monarchy.”

“Look at what Andrew did… it’s so much worse than what Meghan did.”
Jeremy apparently agreed, adding: “The Meghan and Harry thing looks like a picnic compared to this.”
Viewers flocked to comment on X, with one claiming: “They used her as a scapegoat. Meghan did nothing wrong. Prince Harry just protected his wife and children and let them out.”
Another wrote: “Big difference with Andrew [Meghan]Please do not apologize on behalf of others.”
Buckingham Palace announced that the Sussexes will not return as working members of the royal family in February 2021.
After several statements, from Oprah Winfrey’s interview in which they voiced concerns about their time as royals to Harry’s book Spare, the prince opened the door to reconciliation and said he forgave his family for “many disagreements”.
Meanwhile, King Charles’ younger brother Andrew has faced criticism for his relationship with sex offender Epstein.
The monarch confirmed he was willing to support Thames Valley police as they considered whether there were grounds to investigate a complaint from anti-monarchy group Republic, which accused Mountbatten-Windsor of suspected misconduct in public office and breach of official secrets.
