Major UK clothing chain crashes into administration – over 400 jobs at risk | UK | News

A popular fashion retailer has fallen into administration, putting 400 jobs at risk. The high street brand has 40 locations across the UK, as well as some stores in Ireland.
It is known for its quiz dresses and women’s clothing. Its administrators were appointed on February 5 and will be Interpath’s Alistair McAliden and Geoff Jacobs. There will be 109 layoffs at Quiz’s office, effective immediately. It is also stated that 408 personnel will be at risk of dismissal.
On February 5, Quiz’s website ceased trading. The chain employs approximately 565 people across 40 stores in the UK. It bills itself as a company that serves “fashion-forward women” ages 16 to 35.
Its administrators say “changing consumer habits, government budget disruption at the peak of Black Friday trading, cost pressures from business rates and increases in the national minimum wage and NI” have led to the administration.
According to reports, Quiz has been approached by “several turnaround funds” looking to provide cash. At its peak, Quiz had more than 300 stores.
Listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2017, the quiz raised more than £100 million.
It went into administration in 2020 and again less than a year ago in February 2025. He has struggled to overcome financial difficulties ever since.
Executives said the company, which was founded in 1993, struggled last year and sales were lower than expected over the Christmas period.
A message on Quiz’s website reads: “QUIZ is currently offline. Our stores will remain open for a while. We are grateful to everyone who has supported us over the years.”
Customers should note that returns will not be refunded, exchanges are for faulty items only, and all gift cards are now void.
