Tesla released its vehicle delivery and production The report for the first quarter of 2026 shows signs of recovery after annual declines in the last two years.
Here are the important numbers:
- Total 1st Quarter vehicle deliveries: 358,023
- Total 1st Quarter vehicle production: 408,386
Analysts were expecting 370,000 deliveries, according to StreetAccount estimates. Consensus compiled by company In the report published by Tesla on March 26, it was stated that the average forecast was 365,645 deliveries in the first quarter.
In the same quarter last year, Tesla reported 336,681 deliveries, marking a 13% decrease compared to the first quarter of 2024. Tesla’s total deliveries in 2025 dropped to 1.64 million from 1.79 million in 2024.
The company’s latest report stated that Tesla’s entry-level Model 3 sedan and most popular Model Y SUVs reached 341,893 units this quarter. Deliveries are the closest approximation to sales reported by Elon Musk’s EV maker but were not precisely defined in the company’s shareholder communications.
While Musk has focused the company on producing driverless Cybercab and Optimus humanoid robots, Tesla has yet to sell those products and the bulk of its revenue still relies on car sales. In January, Tesla announced that it was ending production of its flagship Model S and X vehicles and would use factory lines where they were assembled in Fremont, California, to produce Optimus robots.
The S and X were in decline for Tesla for a long time. 3 and Y accounted for 97% of the company’s deliveries last year.
Musk said in a post on social network X on Wednesday that orders for the S and X had “ended” but some remained in inventory. “We will hold an official ceremony to celebrate the end of an era. I love these cars,” he added.
The angular steel Cybertruck, which Tesla started delivering to customers in late 2023, has not achieved mainstream success. Tesla is preparing to increase deliveries of the all-electric Semi in 2026, a class 8 truck with a range of 500 miles.
In its energy business, Tesla said it installed 8.8 gigawatt hours of battery energy storage in the first quarter, following a record of 14.2 gigawatt hours in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Tesla’s battery energy storage products include Powerwall backup batteries for homes and larger Megapack and Megablock systems used with data centers and utilities.
Tesla shares fell 15% in the first quarter, continuing a trend that started two years ago. The stock fell from January to March in 2024 and 2025, but rose each quarter to end the years higher.
Tesla’s 2025 vehicle sales decline was due to increased competition around the world and consumer backlash against Musk in response to his policies. In addition to Musk’s financial support of President Donald Trump and his work in Trump’s second administration, the Tesla CEO has also supported Germany’s extremist anti-immigrant party AfD and UK anti-Islam activist Tommy Robinson, among others.
Tesla and the broader U.S. EV market were also hurt by the end of the $7,500 federal incentive for purchasing new electric vehicles in September.
But sales of used electric vehicles have been rising since the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran in late February, sparking a conflict that has sent oil prices soaring.
Iran retaliated by targeting ships trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Tesla’s automotive gross margins and supply chain disruptions appear to be in focus when the company holds its first-quarter earnings announcement at 5:30 p.m. ET on April 22.
