Angus Taylor to challenge Sussan Ley for Liberal Party leadership tomorrow; James Paterson, Jonno Duniam quit frontbench; Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Melbourne today
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese used a question from the Labor backbencher to attack divisions within the Liberal Party.
“While we’re building more homes for Australians, the opponents are busy tearing down their own homes. They’re obsessed with cutting each other, but they never want to cut your taxes or the cost of living. They can’t stand each other, Mr Speaker, but they all support cutting Medicare,” the Prime Minister said.
“They love to fight, but they never fight for Australia. They just fight with each other because it goes to their core values. And we saw that with the launch of an extraordinary leadership campaign that didn’t have a single new policy idea. It was just the atmosphere they came up with. They got out there, not a single new idea.”
Albanese was interrupted by an order on the matter, but the question was quickly dismissed because it contained references to the leadership (a setup for the attack).
Continuing the sleigh, the Prime Minister said: “I was waiting for the leadership candidate to say vote for me, I support world peace, that’s what was there.
“The problem isn’t the leader. The problem is, the person sitting there… is going to be another Liberal.”
