Ukrainian capital Kyiv under ‘massive’ attack from Russian missiles, officials say

February 12 (Reuters) – Ukraine’s capital Kiev came under a “major” attack by Russian missiles early on Thursday, hitting several buildings in the attack, officials said.

“A mass attack on the capital is still ongoing,” Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram.

Klitschko said both residential and non-residential buildings were hit on both banks of the Dnipro River, which divides the city in two.

Fragments fell near two residential buildings in one area, but no fires broke out and no casualties were reported.

Emergency medical teams were dispatched.

Timur Tkachenko, head of the capital’s military administration, said at least one attack was recorded in the eastern suburb.

Reuters witnesses heard explosions echoing through the city.

The southeastern city of Dnipro was also attacked, regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha said on Telegram. There was damage to some private homes and cars, but there were no signs of casualties.

Air raid warnings remained in effect in both Kiev and Dnipro after midnight.
