Date set for Donald Trump’s $10 billion libel case against BBC to go to trial

A judge in Florida has ordered that the $10 billion case of the BBC being bought by US president Donald Trump will go to trial in February 2027.
Coming after an episode of BBC Panorama It caused a crisis at the publisher.
The programme, which aired just a week before the 2024 US election results, has been accused of misleading viewers by editing a speech Mr Trump gave on January 6, 2021.
He spliced together two separate clips, creating the impression that Mr. Trump was instructing the crowd: “We’re going to march on the Capitol… and I’ll be there with you. And we’re going to fight. We’re going to fight like hell.”
President Trump’s lawyers argued that his portrayal in the edit was “inaccurate and defamatory” and claimed that the company “intentionally and maliciously sought to completely mislead its worldwide audience.”
In December, the BBC released a statement confirming that it planned to take legal action, saying: “As we have previously stated, we will defend this case. We will not be commenting further on ongoing legal proceedings.”
This is a breaking story, more to come…
