Kathy Griffin declares herself ‘uncanceled’ after Trump photo controversy

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Comedian Kathy Griffin declared herself “not canceled” during an interview with NPR affiliate WUSF on Thursday, standing next to a photo she posted years ago of a bloody, severed head resembling President Donald Trump.

Inside report Griffin reflected on the backlash that derailed his career with WUSF and said audiences are now ready to welcome him back.

After Griffin posted a controversial photo of himself wearing a Halloween mask covered in fake blood resembling Trump in 2017, members of both parties condemned the photo, accusing it of encouraging violence against an elected official.

“Oh, I guess I didn’t get canceled, which is a miracle to me because I never thought I might get canceled,” Griffin said in the WUSF interview.

“It’s even more special now that it hasn’t been canceled for me to come back to Tampa because I haven’t played Tampa in a really long time,” he added.

Griffin first apologized for the photo, but later retracted his apology and said he did not regret sharing the photo.

“People still define me by that. I really own that now and I definitely trust it because I was right and I was ahead of my time,” Griffin said.

“And now when I look at that picture, I’m so proud of it,” he continued.

Griffin said Trump acted “like he was afraid of me” long before the photo was published. He added: “He would hold up four fingers like a cross and say, ‘Oh, here he comes. He’s going to be tough on me. Don’t make fun of my hair.'”
