Udhayanidhi Stalin presents awards to cine artists; says awards were chosen by a Committee

Music director AR Rahman, actors Karthi, Dhanush, R. Parthiban, Surya, Vikram Prabhu and Sai Pallavi and other actors and artistes were conferred with various awards given by the Tamil Nadu government in Chennai on Friday.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin awarded the cinema awards for years between 2016-2022, small screen awards for years between 2014-2022 and Government of Tamil Nadu MGR Film and Television Institute Awards for documentaries between academic years 2015-16 to 2021-22 (except 2018-19).
Addressing the criticism immediately after the awards were announced last month, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin said that these awards had not been announced for many years and shortly after taking office, the Prime Minister said that these awards should be announced as soon as possible. “The Prime Minister announced the formation of a selection committee headed by retired judge Justice KBK Vasuki. These awards are given only based on the recommendations of this committee. So, the awards are given entirely on ‘credit’ basis.”
