CBP seizes $6.8M alleged cocaine in Laredo truck shipment at Texas border

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials seized 190,000 lethal doses of cocaine worth $6,800,000 at the Laredo Port of Entry, according to a press release.
The drugs were seized Tuesday from a truck carrying flowers to the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas.
A 2018 T3 International tractor and trailer were referred for inspection by a CBP officer. There was a shipment of “roses/fresh flowers” in the vehicle.

Following a canine and non-intrusive inspection system inspection, officers seized a total of 211 packages containing an alleged 516.76 pounds of cocaine.

Alberto Flores, director of the Laredo Port of Entry, said in a statement that the “significant” seizure “highlights our officers’ steadfast determination to protect our borders and communities from the threat of illegal drug trafficking.”
“The discovery inside the rose shipment demonstrates the vigilance and expertise of our officers,” Flores said.

The World Trade International Bridge connects the United States and Mexico across the Rio Grande between Laredo and Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.
Homeland Security Investigations special agents are investigating the seizure.

A CBP officer requested a second examination of the male, 64-year-old Rito Bueno, which matched him to the warrant.
“Bueno was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child,” a press release said at the time.

Bueno was transported to the Webb County jail in Laredo pending adjudication of the warrant.
