‘Carefully scripted, desperate PR exercise’: Cong slams PM Modi’s interview | Politics News

The Congress on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interview with PTI was “not an interview” and claimed it was “carefully scripted” and a “desperate PR exercise”.
Congress general secretary for communications Jairam Ramesh also claimed that the prime minister, who was “under siege and attack for his capitulation to the US on the trade deal”, was now resorting to his “favourite tactic” of headline management.
“The Prime Minister knows that this year’s budget was a damp draft and showed every sign of intellectual fatigue. Markets reacted negatively and investors were unimpressed. That is why he feels the need to give an interview two weeks after the Budget was presented and a few days after it was torn apart by the Opposition in Parliament,” Ramesh said. he said.
“As usual, there are Modi-style one-liners that actually mean little,” the Congress leader said.
Ramesh alleged that Modi was trying to divert attention from his “betrayal” of farmers and other “capitulations”.
“His so-called interview is not an interview but a carefully scripted and desperate public relations exercise,” Ramesh said.
“Pradhan Mantri jhuke bhi hain, aur thake bhi hain,” he added.
His remarks came after Prime Minister Modi, in an interview with PTI, said that this year’s Budget is not a ‘now or never’ moment born of necessity, but a ‘we are ready’ moment born of preparation and inspiration. Modi maintained that the Budget reflects India’s “aspiration” to become a developed country.
Modi said that no budget of his government has been made with the attitude of creating ordinary ‘bahi khata’ documents, “that is not our approach”.
Recalling that he declared ‘Yahi Samay Hai, Sahi Samay Hai’ from the walls of the Red Fort a few years ago, Modi said that the sense of purpose of “now is the time” has always been present in his government.
