Iran Says No Direct Talks with US in Islamabad are Planned

Teheran: Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday that no meetings with the United States are planned in Islamabad during the ongoing visit of a delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that the delegation came to Islamabad to meet with Pakistani leaders as part of efforts to support regional peace. He announced that no direct meeting between Iran and the United States was planned during the visit.

The post said, “No meeting is planned between Iran and the USA. Iran’s observations will be conveyed to Pakistan.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Pakistan’s Islamabad on Friday (local time) and raised the possibility of renewed peace talks between Tehran and the US, ARY News reported.

Araghchi is expected to meet with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of General Staff Asim Munir during his visit. He is accompanied on the trip by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei.

According to ARY News, after his visit in Islamabad, the Iranian foreign minister will travel to Muscat and Moscow as part of his regional tour.

The visit came after the White House announced that US President Donald Trump would send Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and senior adviser Jared Kushner to Pakistan for talks related to Tehran, signaling a new step for dialogue.

Previously, the White House announced that Trump decided to send Witkoff and Kushner to Pakistan for Iran-related talks after Washington signaled potential diplomatic interaction with Tehran.
