The country’s first national ‘cow culture’ museum, on the initiative of the Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad, will be set up on the campus of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya University of Veterinary Sciences in Mathura, an official said, adding that the land has been selected for the project.

Agra District Commissioner Nagendra Pratap stated that the museum will convey to the public the “religious, cultural and spiritual importance of cattle” as well as the scientific benefits of cows and their products. “This unique combination of tradition and science will promote a holistic understanding of cow conservation,” he said.

On Saturday, February 14, 2026, Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad Vice President Shailajakant Mishra, Divisional Commissioner Nagendra Pratap, District Magistrate CP Singh, Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority Vice Chairman Lakshmi N, Braj Teerth Chief Executive Officer Vikas Suraj Patel, Environmental Consultant (from Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad) Mukesh Sharma and Dr Amit Shukla from Veterinary college proposed examined the area and discussed the outlines of the project.

Understanding India’s cow heritage

The department commissioner said that the museum will display around 100 digital and symbolic cattle models. This will include all major cattle breeds found in the country, as well as endangered species, to provide future generations with a comprehensive understanding of India’s rich cow heritage.

One of the main attractions of the museum will be an exhibition dedicated to cow’s milk and its products such as milk, curd, cheese and ghee. This exhibition will use modern techniques to present the scientific, nutritional and Ayurvedic benefits of these products.

A dairy lounge will also be developed on-site, offering pure dairy products to visitors.

The project recognizes the cow as a “mother” in Indian culture and highlights its spiritual importance in the Sanatan tradition. This approach will show that cow protection is not just an economic or agricultural issue, but is also deeply intertwined with religious practices, virtuous lifestyles and public welfare, the official said.

He also stated that this museum, developed at the national level under the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is expected to elevate the identity of the Braj region and serve as a milestone in understanding and embracing a cow-based economy of scientific standards.
