Actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested after being accused of hitting two men during Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans, police said.
New Orleans police said in a statement that LaBeouf was charged with two counts of simple battery.
Police said officers were called to a business near the French Quarter around 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday (US time) after LaBeouf was allegedly “causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive” inside. Police did not say what type of business it was.
Police said an employee tried to remove LaBeouf, and when he got out, the actor struck a man “multiple times with closed fists.”
Witnesses told police that LaBeouf left the area but later returned and continued to act aggressively.
“Multiple individuals attempted to restrain him by releasing him in the hopes that he would leave,” police said.
The man LaBeouf allegedly hit him the first time told police that the actor hit him again. Another man told officers that LaBeouf also allegedly punched him in the nose.
“He was kept there until the police arrived,” police said.
LaBeouf, who was hospitalized for treatment of unknown injuries, was arrested and detained by the police after his release.
Court and jail records did not list an attorney who could speak on LaBeouf’s behalf. Emails sent to LaBeouf’s publicists were not immediately responded to.
LaBeouf has had multiple run-ins with the law throughout his career, including an arrest captured on livestream video for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct in New York in early 2017. He was sent to rehabilitation by court decision.
Later that year, he was arrested for public intoxication in Georgia and charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction at the location where he was filming. Peanut Butter Falconand was sentenced to probation. In 2020, he was charged with misdemeanor battery and petit larceny in Los Angeles.
That same year, British singer and actor FKA Twigs, whose legal name is Tahliah Barnett, also filed a lawsuit alleging that LaBeouf physically and emotionally abused her during their relationship. They settled the case in July.
Barnett alleged that LaBeouf put her in a constant state of fear and humiliation, once hit her with a car, tried to strangle her, and knowingly gave her a sexually transmitted disease.
LaBeouf apologized in a statement after the lawsuit was filed. He also denied the accusations in the case in a 2021 filing, saying the injuries Barnett suffered or the damages he suffered were not his fault.
The 39-year-old actor first gained acclaim for his role in the Disney Channel series in his childhood. Even Stevensand continued to work steadily into adulthood. He is perhaps best known for his roles in 2007. Transformers and in 2008 Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.
