SA Police Commissioner gives update on search for 4yo Gus Lamont

South Australian Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said although they had identified a suspect, investigators were still “exploring every possibility” in Gus Lamont’s disappearance.
The four-year-old boy’s disappearance from his family’s remote Oak Park Station property in the state’s North Central region in September last year is being investigated as a major crime.
Police announced earlier this month that they had identified a suspect who was known to the boy but was not one of Gus’ parents.
After a renewed search of Oak Park Station this week that turned up no new evidence, Mr. Stevens said he expected the investigation to likely be a “long process” for police.
“Unfortunately, I think the Gus Lamont case will be in the news cycle quite often as Major Crimes continue to do their job,” he told FIVEAA from Adelaide on Wednesday.
Police searched a property where fresh cement had recently been installed during the final two-day search to find missing Gus Lamont. This comes after one of Gus Lamont’s grandparents was arrested Monday and charged with a firearms offense. The charges are not related to the disappearance of the four-year-old child.
“As everyone knows, we have declared this a major crime; we are focusing specifically on this investigation and will be spending more time there and in the task force looking into this disappearance.
“From the very beginning, when we first received notification of Gus’s disappearance, we have always said that we are investigating every possibility, and this shows that despite the delicate focus of the investigation, all possibilities are being explored.
“All possible situations are being investigated. There is a lot of work to be done and Major Crimes will continue to do so.”
Searchers this week focused part of the renewed operation on an outbuilding and water tank on a neighboring property where fresh concrete had recently been laid, ABC reported.
Cadaver dogs were also included in the search.
Investigators confirmed they no longer believed Gus was alive.
No arrests have been made or charges filed in the child’s disappearance.
