The scam resulted in South Australian Premier Peter Malinauska scoring a spectacular own goal by leaning on the Adelaide Festival Board to ‘reinvite’ Palestinian writer Randa Abdel-Fattah from attending this year’s Adelaide Writers’ Week, resulting in Louise Adler resigning, writers cancelled, the Board collapsed and the event cancelled.
The result is an alternative festival filled with beams. Streisand effect at work.
The Adelaide writing community, led by Writers SA, came together and managed to garner enough support to organize an alternative for this year. constellation banner – Negative Writers’ Week.
On March 1, Louise Adler will speak to Randa Abdel-Fattah on stage at Adelaide Town Hall.
