Man arrested after two teenagers found dead at Yorkshire holiday park | UK news

Two teenagers have died from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at a holiday park on the Yorkshire coast.

A 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were found dead at a rental property at Little Eden holiday park in Bridlington on Wednesday, police said.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence and is being questioned by police.

Chief Supt Matt Peach, of Humberside police, said detectives were investigating whether the teenagers died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.

He said: “This is an extremely saddening and heartbreaking situation for the families of the young people involved and they are at the forefront of our minds and actions.

“Specially trained officers have been supporting families for the last 24 hours and I would ask people to please avoid any speculation and respect their privacy.”

It is understood that some holidaymakers were asked to leave the park on Wednesday, where families gather for the semester break.

Police said on Thursday that a police cordon remained in place as investigations continued. Humberside fire and rescue said it was working with the Health and Safety Executive and East Riding of Yorkshire council.

Peach said: “Although we are in the very early stages and the deaths are currently unexplained, we are investigating the possibility that they were linked to carbon monoxide poisoning and have further investigations ongoing with our partner organisations.

“Emergency services and partner agencies have joined all other properties on site to offer advice, support and guidance and keep everyone safe.

“We know the shock and upset this will cause in the local community and I want to reassure them that we will do everything we can to establish exactly what happened. Residents in the area will continue to see an increased police presence and we will provide further updates as we can.”

Travel company Liv Retreats, which runs Little Eden holiday park, has been contacted for comment.
