Sheriff praised Trump
It was also reported that Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif praised the leadership of US President Trump at the opening meeting of the ‘Peace Board’ and met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during his visit to Washington.
Sharif praised Trump’s “unique initiative” and “dynamic leadership”, saying his “courageous diplomacy has certainly brought calm to many serious international hot spots.”
According to IANS, the Pakistani leader also supported the Gaza peace framework announced at the meeting, stating that “the Palestinian people have endured illegal occupation and great suffering for a long time” and called for “a reliable path for Palestinian self-determination through the establishment of an independent, sovereign and contiguous Palestinian state.”
Notably, although the Sheriff had arranged a meeting with Secretary Rubio, an independent bilateral meeting with President Trump was not planned on the sidelines of the event.
Trump’s ‘Peace Board’
US President Trump on Thursday kicked off a new forum for a meeting of world leaders at the US Institute of Peace and announced a $10 billion US contribution tied to post-war stabilization and relief efforts in Gaza.
Trump also said that leaders of other countries were following the meeting remotely.
Representatives from more than 40 countries, including many heads of state such as Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, attended the opening meeting.
India was represented by Namgya Khampa, Deputy Ambassador of India to the USA.
