FedEx sues U.S. for refund of Trump tariffs after Supreme Court ruling

Federal Express He sued the US government on Monday, demanding a “full refund” of the money the shipping giant paid for tariffs unilaterally imposed by President Donald Trump last year, which the Supreme Court ruled were illegal last week.
FedEx’s lawsuit appears to be the first filed by a major American company seeking refunds for tariffs paid after Friday’s Supreme Court decision.
Other companies previously filed lawsuits seeking refunds before the Supreme Court ruled that Trump’s tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act were illegal.
FedEx filed the lawsuit in the Court of International Trade, where the Supreme Court ruled Friday that it has “exclusive jurisdiction” over IEEPA tariffs.
“Plaintiffs seek a full refund from Defendants to them of all IEEPA taxes paid by Plaintiffs to the United States,” the lawsuit states, naming plaintiff Federal Express Corp and its subsidiary FedEx Logistics. The named defendants are U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which collects the tariffs, commissioner Rodney Scott, and the U.S. government.
