Man, 31, faces rape and sexual assault charges
A man who allegedly used social media to groom and harass women before sexually assaulting them has been charged with more than 30 offenses on the Sunshine Coast.
Police allege the 31-year-old, from Mooloolaba, solicited sexual activity in exchange for money on social media between July 2023 and November 2025.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Tim Harris alleged the man continued to use multiple social media platforms to speak to 11 women, all aged between 26 and 35.
“ [man] He used social media platforms multiple times to reach out to victims. He didn’t know them, but he groomed them to have a relationship,” Harris claimed.
He said the man was arrested at an address on Brisbane Road Mooloolaba in the early hours of Monday but did not say whether he lived at the address.
He faces 31 charges, including 11 counts of rape, 7 counts of using a carrying device for threatening and harassing purposes, 6 counts of stalking, 2 counts of sexual assault and administering stupefying drugs.
He was also accused of violating privacy by recording.
Harris remained tight-lipped about the details of the case but said police believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information to get in touch.
“My message is this: While our investigations are ongoing, if there are others in our community who may believe they were the victims of this male individual, please contact the police,” he said.
The man was known to local police, Harris said. He remained in custody and was expected to appear at Maroochydore Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
