The incredible new £392m skyscraper that will be Africa’s tallest building | World | News

An incredible new skyscraper will soon rise above a major city skyline and become the tallest building in Africa. The continent’s current tallest tower is the 1,292ft (393.8m) tall Iconic Tower in Egypt’s New Capital, but Egypt’s supertall skyscraper is about to be stripped of its title as the Ivory Coast Tour F, also known as Tower F, is expected to be completed this year and will reach a height of 1,381ft (421 metres) – 89ft higher – when completed.
The massive project will see the skyscraper used as an office building that will bring together various government agencies currently spread across the city. Plans for the building actually date back to the 1970s, when it was part of an urban development plan that included the five existing towers of the administrative complex.
However, a new planning phase began in 2016, and construction work actually started in 2021. The Ivory Coast Ministry of Construction, Housing and Urban Planning is developing the project in collaboration with local construction company PFO Africa, which is handling development and financing.
Designed by Lebanese-Ivorian architect Pierre Fakhoury, the slender, versatile tower consists of a central podium housing reception areas, restaurants, meeting rooms and a large conference hall; 76 office floors; and various elevators, including a panoramic elevator.
The total construction cost is approximately €450 million, equating to over £392 million.
Abidjan is one of the most populous cities in Africa and a major economic center of Ivory Coast. The city is already famous for its modern skyline in the Abidjan plateau region.
However, this development will mark a significant change in the Ivory Coast economy. By strengthening connectivity between Ivory Coast’s Government departments, the country’s largest city could be mapped as West Africa’s leading business hub.
