Donald Trump claimed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in major Israeli-US airstrikes. Iranian state media had previously denied Israeli reports that the dictator was dead, adding that Khamenei was safe and “ruling the field.” But on Saturday night, shortly before 21:45 GMT, the US President took to Truth Social to claim that Iran’s supreme leader was dead.
He wrote: “Khamenei, one of the worst people in history, is dead. This is justice not only for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans and people in many countries of the world who were killed or maimed by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty STUFF.” Mr. Trump, whose forces joined Israeli strikes overnight in Operation Epic Fury, claimed the Iranian leader “could not evade our Intelligence and Highly Advanced Tracking Systems, and working closely with Israel, there was nothing he or the other leaders killed with him could have done.”
