Two injured after man spotted with knives sparking police search in Edinburgh

Two people were taken to hospital following an incident in Edinburgh which resulted in a man being seen with knives.

Armed police were called to the incident in Calder, west of the Scottish city, on Monday morning after “reports of a man carrying a sharp-edged weapon”.

Photos taken from the scene showed several police vehicles, a block of flats and armed police officers outside Cobbinshaw House.

Investigations are ongoing after two people were injured, but Police Scotland said the incident was now “under control” and was not linked to terrorism.

Chief Inspector Scott Kennedy said: “Previous disturbances in the Calder area of ​​Edinburgh have now been brought under control and there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public.

“The incident is not thought to be related to terrorism.

“Police officers were called to reports of a man with a knife in Calder Gardens at around 8.25am.

“Specialist resources, including firearms officers, are based at a nearby property and investigations are ongoing.

“Two people were injured and taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.”

The area remains cordoned off and police presence is being increased nearby.

He continued: “I understand this is a worrying incident for the local community. I would like to reassure the public that officers will remain in the area while our investigations continue.”
