Man shot by police after allegedly attacking women

A man was shot by police at an inner-city unit complex amid reports that an armed attacker attacked two women and threatened officers.

NSW Police said officers were called to a building in Potts Point, Sydney, at around 10.50am on Tuesday following reports that an armed man had entered the complex and attacked women.

“The responding officer used a stun gun, but this was ineffective,” a spokesman said.

“The man allegedly threatened responding officers with a gun before an officer discharged his firearm and shot the man.”

A crime scene investigation area has been established and the investigation into the critical incident is ongoing.

The street was cordoned off after ambulance officers and police responded to the scene with a helicopter.

The condition of those injured in the incident is unknown.

The investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
