Charlamagne calls Bill Clinton ‘cowardly’ over Trump Epstein response

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Podcaster Charlamagne tha God slammed former President Bill Clinton in Tuesday’s “Donkey of the Day,” saying he was strategically gambling when asked whether President Donald Trump should be questioned about Jeffrey Epstein.

Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton were grilled during their deposition over their knowledge of sex trafficker and financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died last week. Asked if Trump would face similar remark, Bill Clinton replied, “That’s for you to decide, but he knew him well and I once had a brief discussion with him about it.”

He later added: “I hate it because I don’t think I should inject anything, but I don’t want to make an impression. But because there was no follow-up question, he never – the president never, this was 20-odd years ago, said anything that would suggest to me that he was involved in anything inappropriate with Epstein either.”

His wife, Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, referenced a civil lawsuit involving author E. Jean Carroll in which Trump was held civilly liable for allegations that he sexually assaulted Carroll. 34-count penalty decision by a New York City court over allegations that he tried to conceal payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Trump denied any wrongdoing in both cases.

Hillary Clinton also said Trump should “absolutely” be removed from office, adding, “I’m not saying you’re going to get a lot of information, but given what’s in the files and the history and prior behavior, Trump will be on my list of witnesses.”

Speaking on his radio show, Charlamagne compared the Clintons in very different terms.

“Hillary gave the answer. OK, that’s the real answer,” he said. podcast. “What Bill Clinton did was cowardly. OK, ‘That’s up to you to decide.’ Of course Bill. You are right. It’s up to them to decide. But can you at least explain why you think it should be that way?”

“Yes, President Trump should have to testify before the House committee for all the reasons Hillary just laid out, not to mention how many times his name was mentioned in the files and the revelation that the Justice Department kept the Epstein files that mentioned Trump.”

Charlamagne later added, “They’re just trying to get information. OK, I said they were just trying to get more information. So for Bill to say it’s up to them to decide is cowardly.”

He also argued that Bill Clinton had his own motivations for gambling on whether Trump would be questioned in an official deposition.

“By the way, do you know anyone with a real friend named in the files as much as President Trump in front of the Republicans? Yes! Who supports him? ‘Yes, he needs to testify, here are the reasons?’ “You couldn’t say it.” asked Charlamagne. “I guess that’s hard to do when you’re so worried about your own mess getting swept under the rug.”

Charlamagne later argued: “When political figures start answering a yes or no question like an essay prompt, it’s because the real answer is either A) politically inconvenient or B) they’re trying to save their own a— and they don’t want to throw the current president under the bus because they know he’s crazy enough to get them arrested.”

Charlamagne criticized Bill Clinton for simultaneously saying he wanted all the information released there, but also refusing to call for Trump to testify.

“What you’re witnessing here is, as George Carlin said, ‘This is a big club and we’re not in it.’ Ok my love?” said the host. “If you believe in accountability, it shouldn’t depend on whose jersey the person is wearing, and right now President Clinton and President Trump are wearing the same jersey.”

“President Clinton is giving President Trump a heavy handicap here. Because when former presidents start gambling on fundamental questions about the testimony of current presidents, that’s not being neutral. That’s solidarity of elites.”

A spokesperson for Clinton disputed Charlamagne’s claim when reached by Fox News Digital.

“Perhaps Charlamagne did not follow the entire statement, but President Clinton did in fact make specific recommendations,” the spokesperson said.

Fox News Digital is awaiting a response as to what these specific recommendations are.

Fox News Digital also reached out to the White House to emphasize that President Trump has been cleared of any wrongdoing regarding Epstein.

“As President Trump has said, he has been completely cleared of all matters related to Epstein,” White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said. “And by releasing thousands of pages of documents, cooperating with the House Oversight Committee’s subpoena request, signing the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and calling for further investigations of Epstein’s fellow Democrats, President Trump has done more for Epstein’s victims than anyone before him. Meanwhile, Democrats like Hakeem Jeffries and Stacey Plaskett have yet to explain why they demanded money and meetings from Epstein after he became a convicted sex offender.”
