Prison riot in Mexico’s Veracruz state leaves 7 dead, 11 injured as authorities restore order

TUXPAN, Mexico (AP) – Authorities in Veracruz, Mexico on Sunday, said that seven prisoners were killed and 11 were injured in a rebellion exploding the night before.

In a statement published in X, Veracruz said that the prisoners who were injured during the rebellion in Taxpan prison have now received medical assistance and that the fires initiated by some prisoners were extinguished.

Videos from the city of Toxpan showed the columns of Duman from prison on Saturday, while images published on social media showed prisoners with burns.

Some of the prisoners recorded the videos they claimed to have begun as a group of prisoners of the rebellion, rebelled against a criminal organization known as Grupo Sombra and forcing prisoners and their families.
