Sergeant 1st Class Nicole Amor was just days away from returning to her husband and two children when she and five other U.S. service members were killed in a drone strike on a command center in Kuwait.
“She was almost home,” her husband, Joey Amor, said Tuesday (Washington time) from their home in Minnesota. “You don’t go to Kuwait thinking something is going to happen, and it hurts that he was one of the first.”
Amor was one of four US soldiers killed in the Iran war on Sunday and identified by the Pentagon on Tuesday; The identities of the two soldiers have not yet been made public. Members of the Army Reserve worked in logistics and provided food and equipment to the troops.
They died just one day after the United States and Israel launched military action against Iran. Iran responded by launching missiles and drones at Israel and several Gulf Arab states that host US armed forces.
Those killed included Capt. Cody Khork, 35, of Florida; Sergeant 1st Class Noah Tietjens, 42, of Nebraska; and Sergeant Declan Coady, 20, of Lowa, who was posthumously promoted from specialist. No other names were announced.
“These men and women all bravely volunteered to defend our country, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” said Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll.
