Popular fast food chain closes Kansas City location amid franchise bankruptcy

Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers – a popular fast food chain with locations across the country – has closed a location in Kansas City.
According to signs posted around the restaurant, 13628 Washington St. The Martin City store at closed on 26 February.
The restaurant was owned by M&M Custard LLC, a company based in Overland Park. It filed for bankruptcy in November. Has dozens of locations in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky and beyond
The other KC-area location is 632 E. Main St. in Gardner. remains open. In a statement to The Star, Freddy’s clarified that the decision to close was made solely by the franchisee.
“We are grateful for the support of the community and the dedicated team members who serve them,” the company wrote in its statement. “There have been no other closures in the Kansas City area and we do not anticipate any future closures.”
M&M Custard could not be reached regarding the latest closing.
Freddy’s was first opened in Wichita in 2002 by brothers Bill and Randy Simon and business partner Scott Redler. The Simon brothers named the restaurant after their father, Freddy.
Today the restaurant has more than 500 locations.
