IVF centre In Nashik Sealed

Nashik Authorities in Maharashtra’s Nashik district have sealed an in vitro fertilization (IVF) center here in connection with allegations of illegal human egg extraction and surrogacy racket and also set up an investigation committee, officials said on Thursday. A racket allegedly involved in illegal extraction and sale of human eggs came to light recently in Badlapur in Thane district.

Malti In Vitro Fertilization Center in Nashik is mentioned in some documents found in Badlapur. As a result, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) sealed this centre, officials said.

A team of the civil health department raided the in vitro fertilization center in Nashik’s Mumbai Naka area on Wednesday and seized documents from there. Authorities also said they canceled and sealed the registration of the in vitro fertilization centre.

Officials stated that an investigation committee has been established to thoroughly investigate and check the documents detained from the center and that the investigation report will clarify whether there was a violation of rules at the Nashik center.

NMC’s chief medical officer, Dr. Vijaykumar Devkar said, “There were some irregularities in the in vitro fertilization centre. Therefore, action was taken against it. The center was sealed and documents were seized.” he said.

The ruckus came to light in Badlapur after a woman complained that she was not paid for egg donation. Thereupon, the house of the alleged ringleader, Sulakshana Gadekar (44), was raided and hormone injections were seized there.

Investigators suspect an interstate network was involved in the crime.

According to the police, data seized from their mobile phones shows that women donors were duped with offers of Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000. After receiving hormonal injections at Gadekar’s home, they were transported to Bengaluru, Telangana, Nagpur, Pune and Nashik for extraction.
