Export panels, import panels – How Adani makes the best use of US solar tariffs

The United States saved Indian solar panels from harsh tariffs imposed on a number of Indian goods and benefited a few Indian companies, including Mundra Solar PV Ltd (MSPVL), a subsidiary of such panels in Mundra of Adana Enterprises Ltd. Adani Green Energy Ltd, just three hours away from the road, builds the world’s largest solar park in Khavda with the league of China’s jinkos and best solar panel suppliers.

Exporting panels from one company and importing for the other helps Adani group to benefit from the variable global tariff scenario in the best way, as it prioritizes the best for each business shareholders.

Although profitable, this arbitrage is likely to be short -lived with India.

Adani’s strategy contrasts with other players such as Tata Power and Waaree Energy, who use in -house panels to build their own solar power plants. An important difference is that the solar panel production business and the solar power plant work in the same company in the case of TATA Power. Waaree’s captive solar power plants are not as wide as TATA and Adani, because the key job produces panels.

High margin

The Credit Rating Agency India Ratings increased MSPVL’s note in April with a notch to A+. “Export sales provide higher margins due to solid demand from the United States, which determine imports from China, a credit rating from China. As a result, India a credit rating on April 2.

S&P Plates, India’s exports to the United States, said that export to other countries has been priced about five -fifth of exports. Approximately 80% of all solar exports from India are going to the USA. Meanwhile, according to S&P Plates, companies in the Xinjiang region of China are the largest and most affordable solar cell manufacturers in the world.

2GW Topcon Sun cells and modules 2GW annually MSPVL – enough to give power to 2.5 million Indian home – send more than half of the production to the United States. Topcon means tunnel oxide, the most popular solar cell technology today.

Supported by high -margin exports, the company has doubled its income in 25 financial years. La6,353 crore jumped more than five times the snow La1,085 crore according to regulatory applications. According to Indian ratings, EBITDA margin rose from 13.8% to 27.3% in the first nine months of 25.

Cheaper in China

Adani Group has an end -to -end supply chain for the sun in two group companies listed. The two Adani Enterprises unit produces solar cells and modules, and Adani Green builds large solar plants with such modules to generate electricity.

The trade between Adani Enterprises and Adani Green or its absence is compatible with governance practices after other Bluechip peers, where they do not give a preferential treatment to a group of companies. Instead, maximum return and supply chain or customer base for shareholders are prioritized.

Adani Green Energy’s spokesman E -Posta and “The transactions between group companies are treated with the same meticulousness with those containing independent suppliers, providing transparent and fair relationships for all parties.” He said.

“In addition, our supply processes are compatible with good governance practices, and all transactions within the group or third -party organizations are carried out on the basis of the length of a arm and the built -in price is realized by competitive proposal mechanisms.”

Sözcü said that various factors, including the project program, requirements, delivery time schedules and usability, affect supply decisions.

In addition to large -scale projects, Adani’s in -house panels are used for government initiatives such as Kusum (Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) and Suria Ghar scheme, which promotes the roof solar installations in the household.

Jinko, League

Among the solar module suppliers of Adani Green for Khavda, there are at least six manufacturers other than the other group company MSPVL. Jinko Solar is the largest supplier that constitutes almost 2.4 GW from the 5.6 GW installed capacity in Khavda, according to statements made by two companies. Long from China provided another 1.4 GW module. Among other suppliers, China’s JA sun and astronergine, as well as domestic players Sun and Goldi Solar grew.

However, the opportunity for the two companies is likely to be short -lived. On the one hand, the demand and prices of the solar modules sold in the USA can cool off in the medium term as the projects that are currently under construction become operational. On the other hand, India has limited the importation of Chinese -made solar modules, compulsory to use solar panels for all government -related projects made by local companies that make up the solar demand in India. Only manufacturers, approved models and producers (almm) list can supply solar panels to projects that will supply electricity to the national network such as Khavda.

Restrictions are valid from April 2021, but it has been kept in the 24 fiscal year to resolve the distress of indigenous solar panels. Projects approved before April 2021 or during FY24 may use the solar modules of any brand, including Chinese. The government is also working on a second almm list for solar cells, which are expected to be effective from June 2026, which will require companies to use only domestic solar cells.

Adani Green Energy spokesman, “Sun module supply, approved models and manufacturers of the list of the list (almm) is fully compatible. He said. The spokesman includes a mixture of both domestic and international players, including Adani New Industries Limited, and is completely fitting into the framework of valid Indian regulations, tender requirements and policy. “We are connected to transparency, regulatory harmony and best governance practices in all areas of our project executives and operations.”

We adhere to transparency, regulatory harmony and best governance practices in all areas of our project executives and operations.

Demand appearance

For this reason, domestic demand for the solar modules in India continues to increase and several producers are currently prioritizing local sales in exports. Considering this, MSPVL is likely to supply more to Adani Green and other Indian solar companies in the future.

A silicone block of high purity called Ingot is the basic raw material for solar panels. This ingot is then cut into thin strips called wafer, which are processed in the solar cells that can then convert sunlight into electricity. Wafer are then mounted on a solar module, also called solar panel.

Interestingly, Jinkosos, the leading supplier of both MSPVL and Adani Green, are fighting the first sun of the United States in a Court of Delaware.
