Four men are arrested on suspicion of spying for Iran ‘by carrying out surveillance linked to the Jewish community in London’

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of spying for Iran following a police investigation into members of London’s Jewish community.

The people in question were detained by the Metropolitan Police at around 1am this morning following raids on addresses in Barnet and Watford.

These individuals were detained as part of a Counter-Terrorism Police investigation into suspected National Security Act offences.

Police said one of the arrested people was an Iranian citizen and the other three were dual Iranian-British citizens.

The investigation concerns suspicious surveillance of locations and individuals associated with the Jewish community in the London area.

Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of London Counter Terrorism Police, said: ‘Today’s arrests are part of a long-running investigation and our ongoing work to disrupt malicious activity where we suspect it.

‘We understand that the public, particularly the Jewish community, may be concerned and, as always, I would ask them to remain vigilant and contact us if they see or hear anything that concerns them.’
