The accident occurred Saturday evening in the Montreal-North borough, at the intersection of Henri-Bourrassa Boulevard and Salk Avenue, according to information provided by the City of Montreal Police Service (SPVM).
The bus was “stationary” in front of a bus stop when an SUV “hit the rear” of the heavy vehicle shortly before 5:50 p.m., explained SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.
The two occupants of the car were transported to a hospital; the passenger, a 25-year-old woman, was in critical condition while the driver, a 29-year-old man, had suffered minor injuries.
The bus driver, a 57-year-old man, and the passengers escaped unhurt, said M.me Honeysons.
The causes of the accident are currently unknown. An investigation is underway and the SPVM has erected a security perimeter to protect the scene.
“Checks will be carried out on possible surveillance cameras located near the premises. Witnesses to the event were met by the police,” added the SPVM spokesperson.
Note to readers: The SPVM initially indicated that the injured passenger in critical condition was a woman in her forties. The SPVM later corrected this information, stating that the passenger was 25 years old.
