Russia Attacks Kyiv with Missiles, Explosions Heard

Kyiv: AFP journalists heard two series of explosions in the Ukrainian capital Kiev on Saturday, with an air warning siren sounding minutes after the first blast.
Moscow has been firing missiles and drones at Kiev almost every day since it launched its invasion in February 2022.
But a series of deadly attacks using dozens of ultra-fast ballistic missiles have recently challenged Ukraine’s air defenses.
In a similar attack this week, a missile exploded over the Kiev skyline, shaking sleeping residents before the city’s air warning sirens managed to sound.
Timur Tkachenko, the head of Kiev’s military administration, confirmed on Telegram that Russia “attacked the capital with missiles.”
He called on citizens to “stay in a safe place.”
AFP heard at least five explosions in the early hours of Saturday, followed shortly by a second wave.
The attacks came a day after Ukraine launched drone strikes on oil refineries in southern Russia as Kiev targeted its foe’s energy infrastructure.
