Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti and ruling National Conference (NC) MPs visited the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi on Monday, March 10, 2026, to express condolences over the killing of former religious leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The leaders also condemned US-Israeli attacks on the country.
Lady Mufti, accompanied by party MP and Shiite cleric Agha Muntazir Mehdi, Iranian Ambassador Dr. He met with Muhammed Fethali. “India and Iran have shared decades of friendship. When India faced sanctions following its nuclear tests, Iran stood by us and continued to supply oil. It is painful to see India siding with Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu, against whom the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for alleged war crimes in Gaza,” he said.

“We pray that Iran will stand alone in its fight against evil. Everyone mentioned in the Epstein files appears to be on Israel’s side. Unfortunately, our country has changed its policy towards Iran,” Ms. Mufti said.
MPs leading the NC, including Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo and Gurwinder Singh Oberoi, also signed the condolence book on the “martyrdom of Khamenei”.
An NC spokesperson said the party MPs “expressed deep pain and deep sorrow over the tragic assassination of the respected leader and conveyed their condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran on behalf of the people of J&K, party president Dr. Farooq Abdullah and J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.”
The spokesman said NC lawmakers “strongly condemn the unilateral and barbaric attack by the United States and Israel against a sovereign country.”
“Such actions clearly violate international law and pose a serious threat to peace and stability in the region,” the NC lawmakers said.
