As New Delhi steps up efforts to maintain energy security under the virtual blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke to his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday, March 10, 2026; They were the third such speeches since the start of the West Asian crisis.
He also met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and exchanged views on the emerging crisis in West Asia.

“This evening we had a detailed discussion with Iranian Foreign Minister @araghchi on the latest developments regarding the ongoing conflict. We agreed to stay in touch,” Mr. Jaishankar said on social media.
It was the first phone call between the two foreign ministers after Iran announced it had appointed Mojtaba Khamenei as the country’s new Supreme Leader, days after his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in a joint US-Israeli military strike.
It is not yet known whether the sinking of an Iranian warship by the United States near Sri Lanka on March 4 was taken into account in the meeting between the two leaders.
They spoke on February 28, just after the United States and Israel launched the attack on Iran that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. They also spoke on March 5.
The phone call between the two foreign ministers took place at a time when global concerns are growing about oil supply disruptions due to the crisis in West Asia.

Global oil and gas prices rose after Iran virtually closed the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow shipping lane between the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman that carries about 20% of global oil and LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas).
