Google rolls out ‘powerful’ Gemini features in docs, slides, sheets and drive; Eligibility and benefits

A standout feature in Drive now delivers AI-generated overviews and citations directly in search results, effectively turning the storage platform into an active research collaborator. As competition in the enterprise AI sector intensifies, Google’s move to let Gemini “connect the dots” between Gmail and Drive search results positions the platform as a comprehensive digital assistant rather than just a writing tool.
Gemini in Docs: Style Matching and Contextual Drafting
The writing experience in Google Docs now includes a “Match Writing Style” feature designed to combine audio across fragmented documents. By analyzing meeting minutes or past emails, Gemini can create a first draft that reflects the user’s particular tone. A new bottom bar and side panel allow users to request certain formatting edits, such as filling out an itinerary template using flight and hotel details pulled directly from Gmail receipts.
Twins in Spreadsheets: Automatic Spreadsheets and Web Research
Google Sheets update introduces “Fill with Gemini,” a tool that automates data categorization and exploration. Users can now define a project, such as organizing a cross-country move, and the AI will create checklists and contact lists by pulling quotes from the user’s inbox. For research-intensive tasks, AI can populate entire columns, such as college tuition fees or deadlines, by pulling real-time information from Google Search based on the headlines provided.
Twins in Slides: Editable Diagrams and Thematic Consistency
Google Slides has gained a design collaborator who creates professional, fully editable layouts and diagrams from simple prompts. The tool now pulls context from external files to create new slides that match the visual theme of the existing deck. Currently focusing on individual slide edits, Google has confirmed that a feature to create entire pitch decks of five to ten slides from a single prompt is planned for a future release.
In Gemini Drive: AI Search Summaries and File Synthesis
Google Drive is transitioning from a storage repository to a research engine through its “Ask Gemini” feature. When users search for documents, Gemini now offers an “AI Overview” at the top of the results page that summarizes relevant data with quotes, so users don’t need to open individual files. Users can also select groups of files, such as tax documents or research articles, and ask the AI to synthesize specific recommendations or questions based on that data set.
