Boy, 16, arrested after teenage girl stabbed at school near Norwich

A boy has been arrested after a girl was stabbed at a school near Norwich.

The 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent shortly after the teenage girl was stabbed on Wednesday morning, police said.

Officers were called to a school in Laundry Lane, Thorpe St Andrew, at 10.24am following reports of a child being stabbed. The school is understood to be Thorpe St Andrew’s School and Sixth Form.

It was reported that following the incident, students were isolated in school buildings.

The injured person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police teams started an operation to catch the suspect and later detained the young boy and took him to the police station for questioning.

Emergency services remain at the scene.

Following allegations of anti-Semitic slogans being chanted during a football game involving a Jewish school, the Norfolk Police Department said the incident is not believed to be linked to a hate crime reported at the same school last week.

The school, which was rated Good in the 2025 Ofsted inspection, is a mixed 11-18 secondary school that also includes a sixth form.

In a statement, police said: “Police were called to a school in Laundry Lane, Thorpe St Andrew, at 10.24am this morning following reports that a teenage girl had been stabbed.

“Emergency service teams, including the fire brigade and ambulance, arrived at the scene. The injured person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

“A 16-year-old boy was arrested nearby on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Center for questioning.

“This incident is not believed to be linked to a hate crime reported at the same school last week.”
