On Wednesday, it was announced that Martin Lewis will be awarded the BAFTA Television Special Award for his outstanding and lasting impact on British consumers and public life.
Martin said: ‘For years people thought I was a financial advisor. I’m not. I never have been. I am proudly a television journalist. That’s why this level of recognition at the BAFTA TV Awards is so meaningful.
‘If anyone had told the young man who was retraining for a master’s degree in broadcast journalism in 1997 that this would happen, his jaw would have dropped, he would have smiled in disbelief and asked: ‘What for?’ And frankly I still feel a little bit like that today.’
