Moot court competition in Belagavi from today

Karnatak Law Society will organize the 16th MK Nambyar Memorial National Level Moot Court Competition 2026 at KLS Raja Lakhamagouda College of Law in Belagavi from Friday to Sunday.
More than 100 participants from nine States will compete for a total prize money of ₹ 1.35 lakh as they debate the issue of pros and cons of government interventions towards ensuring the Right to Health.
“The 30 participating teams include teams from National Law Schools in various cities,” society secretary SV Ganachari and university governing council chairman RS Mutalik told reporters here on Thursday.
“Around 50 senior lawyers and academicians from the Supreme Court and District Court will participate as moot judges and judge the contestants. Former Solicitor General of India KK Venugopal is the chief patron of the competition. Mr. Venugopal, who studied at the college, has set up an annual scholarship for the college, which helps run the moot court event. Awards will be given to teams and individuals in various categories. These include best judges, male and female, and a special award given by advocate Ashok N. Potdar,” said Mr. Mutalik.
Judge Jyothi M. of the Karnataka High Court will inaugurate the event at 5.30 pm on Friday.
Association president Pradeep S. Sawkar, secretaries and members will be present. The closing ceremony will be held on Sunday at 16.30. Supreme Court Justice Vijayakumar A. Patil will speak at the graduation ceremony. He will also serve as a referee in the final rounds of the moot court competition. Mr. Ganachari said that officials of the association will be present.
During the inauguration, guests will congratulate the eight college students who cleared all the three-stage examination and were selected as Civil Judges Shreya Utture, Priyanka Rajgolkar, Vijay Kumar Budri, Nagaraj Talwar, Halyalappa, Mounesh Badiger, Naveen Khoparde and Jagadish Kittur.
“Compared to all law colleges in the state, we have produced the highest number of successful candidates in this examination this year,” said Principal AH Hawaldar.
Moot court coordinator Ashwini Parab, faculty member Manjunath Kale, student coordinator Sunidhi Joshi and others were present at the press conference.
