Will the strait of Hormuz torpedo Trump’s war? – podcast | US-Israel war on Iran

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow strip of water at the mouth of the Gulf, is the world’s oil pump, a geographic bottleneck through which 20% of the world’s oil normally flows.
But since the US and Israel launched a war on Iran, Tehran has threatened to close the strait and cause unrest. “They didn’t officially shut it down, but they said they would set fire to any tanker that tried to pass. For any shipowner, any insurer, that’s as good as being shut down.”” Explains the Guardian’s energy correspondent, Jillian Ambrose.
Noshen Iqbal hears about its knock-on effect on the global economy and daily lives. “If you think about your daily life, the goods you consume, the services you use, you’ll see that they all depend on energy at some point. So when costs increase, everything you consume or use will also become more costly,” says Jillian.
Will economic turbulence cause the US president to rethink war? So how long can Iran keep this up? “Donald Trump doesn’t want to admit defeat,” Jillian says, but “I think Iran holds a lot of cards in this conflict.”
