Trump slams NATO allies for not joining Iran war effort

President Donald Trump on Tuesday criticized U.S. NATO allies for their reluctance to join the Iran war and suggested the United States does not need any assistance in its ongoing military operations.
The alliance of 32 European and North American countries “made a very stupid mistake,” Trump said in a meeting with the prime minister of non-NATO member Ireland in the Oval Office.
Trump, who has long criticized NATO and accused the organization of benefiting from US spending and military power, called members’ hesitancy to join the Iran war “a big test, because we don’t need them, but they should be there.”
Trump has been in many countries lately join the coalition Assisting the United States in Iran, including helping secure the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping route that was closed during the war.

Oil prices rose shortly after Trump’s post, casting doubt on the prospect of a multi-state coalition reopening the key strait.
In his speech in the Oval Office, Trump also suggested that his long-awaited visit to China to meet with President Xi Jinping would take place in “about five or six weeks.”
Trump was expected to attend the summit at the end of March, but his administration has signaled in recent days that a delay was likely.
The schedule changes coincided with new turmoil between the two superpowers over the war against Iran, a major oil seller to China, and a new U.S. investigation into China’s business practices.
