Injured hiker trapped days after woman’s fatal fall
Emergency services are back Mount Beerwah to save an injured hiker days after an 18-year-old woman fell to her death on the same trail.
Two fire crews and paramedics arrived at the scene around 7am on Wednesday after receiving a call that two hikers needed to be rescued.
One hiker was injured and the other hiker remained with them.
The call is coming Days after an 18-year-old woman and her partner fell off the roadThe pair plummet 60 to 90 meters down the face of a cliff.
While the woman was determined to have died at the scene, the 18-year-old man was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
Police suspected the couple may have fallen due to slippery conditions on the road.
The official trail leading to Mount Beerwah and the summit, 556 meters above sea level, was closed until Tuesday, March 9, due to heavy rains in the region, which park officials suspected could make the route dangerous.
An alert posted on the Queensland Parks and Forests website earlier this week said the trail would be assessed by rangers on Tuesday and the park would reopen on Wednesday.
On Monday, rescuers also used a crane to rescue a group of six teenagers, aged between 18 and 19, from Mount Barney, a 1359-metre peak about 120 kilometers southwest of Brisbane.
The group disappeared overnight, but no one was injured.
