Shamed police officer jailed for having illicit flings with two criminals has rebranded herself as a prison influencer after being released early

A disgraced police officer who had an illicit relationship with two criminals was released after serving just nine months of his nearly four-year sentence and is now flaunting his freedom on TikTok.

Former Manchester Police officer Choni Kenny, 28, was caught on camera kissing his drug dealer lover while in uniform at Forest Bank prison in Salford.

When they separated, he went on the run with another accomplice and gave him information about a planned police firearms raid.

Kenny was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison last April after pleading guilty to misconduct in office and giving confidential police information.

But after his release from HMP Askham Grange, near York, in January, Kenny rebranded himself online as a ‘stigma-breaking ex-convict’, posting videos about prison life on TikTok while also offering cosmetic treatments to clients.

The former police officer posted jubilant photos showing him being greeted by family members at the gates of the women-only prison where road rage killer Tracie Andrews and child killer Mary Bell once lived.

In one of his videos, Kenny remarkably described his prison routine as ‘easy’, telling his followers: ‘Three meals a day, a roof over your head, a nice warm bed, work nine to five, get paid every week.

‘You don’t need more than 30-odd pounds a week. What more could you want?

‘For me it’s more a case of the life you had before you left being something you missed and thrived in.’

In another, he tells his followers that prison is not like television, and recalls being handed ‘toast on a blue plastic plate and a cup of tea in a glass’ when he first arrived at his first prison, HMP Styal, and admits to thinking: ‘Fucked.’

He continued: ‘I think I bought three sets of sportswear, some underwear and two hoodies, a pair of trainers.

‘If I had known that I wouldn’t be buying a clothing package for about a month, I would have packed a suitcase.

‘As I said, ‘we leave every day with a new outfit for two weeks, all inclusive’.

‘They give it to you like grays [prison issue clothing]It was all brand new and there wasn’t a single cat that could possibly have worn it.’

Kenny was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court in April last year after pleading guilty to misconduct in public office and one count of conspiracy to commit misconduct.

The disgraced officer, who worked for GMP’s City of Manchester area, financed and distributed 20 illegal mobile phones so Josh Whelan, 31, could contact him behind bars.

He was caught on security cameras embracing his girlfriend in the prison waiting room.

It emerged that Kenny had been involved in a relationship with 28-year-old Rahim Mottley, a burglary suspect who was later investigated by GMP and fled to Spain, and had illegally passed police intelligence to him.

Now free, Kenny returned to social media documenting life after prison and portraying herself as a changed woman.

She posts videos of her trips to the gym and meals out, while promoting herself as a self-employed beautician offering anti-wrinkle injections and skin boosters.

He described his first night in prison: ‘I was put behind my door and I sat there with my head in my hands.

‘My first night in that wing was crazy. People were banging on the doors.

‘The heating was on and running at full blast. People were banging on the pipes.

‘I remember the conversations people had. I was lying there. There is no concept of time. There is no clock. There are no curtains. It was either daylight or darkness.

‘I basically didn’t have a pot to put in there. Because I was new in prison, I didn’t know how it worked.’

Kenny also used his account to give tips to others facing prison, advising them to buy sports kit, hoodies, trainers and slippers, adding: ‘You can’t shower in there without shoes on.’

He also told his 11,000 followers that he was now ‘shining because I’m working on myself’ and lashed out at critics for their misdeeds.

Kenny said: ‘Just before someone came for me, yeah I know. It was my fault. I know.

‘I was tried. I don’t need bloody Dave down the road commenting to me saying ‘you shouldn’t have done what you did’.’

Kenny, of Stockport, Cheshire, had already been dismissed by police following a misconduct hearing on April 1, 2025, before his sentence was handed down.

Detective Superintendent Mike Allen, head of GMP’s Professional Standards Directorate at the time, said Kenny ‘abused his position as a police officer’ and his actions ‘clearly amounted to serious corruption’.

During his sentencing, the court heard that Kenny had a ‘casual sexual relationship’ with Whelan and a ‘physical but casual’ relationship with former schoolmate Mottley.

He also promised her that he would find out who the ‘local herbs’ were.

Sentencing Kenny at Liverpool Crown Court, Judge Neil Flewitt said: ‘Your actions were not motivated by a desire to gain a financial or other advantage nor were they motivated by any malice.

‘They were a result of your naivety, your immaturity and your desire to maintain the friendship of Josh Whelan and Rahim Mottley.’

Mottley was sentenced to two years and two months in prison for conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office.
