Liverpool players were seriously worried after Lang’s injury.
The 26-year-old lost his balance and, in a seemingly harmless moment later in the match, put his hands on the billboards to steady himself.
But it soon became apparent that the Dutchman was in absolute pain and the faces of photographers on the sidelines revealed the horrific extent of the damage.
Lang caught his thumb before two parts of the billboard slammed shut.
He immediately fell onto the grass in pain, clutching the blood-soaked finger on his right hand.
As medical staff rushed into action to treat him, players from both sides expressed their concerns.
Lang had to be given oxygen and was taken to the locker room on a stretcher. His manager Okan Buruk later confirmed that he was hospitalized.
On Thursday morning, the footballer shared an update after receiving treatment in Liverpool.
‘S*** happens,’ he wrote. ‘The surgery went well! Thanks for all the messages.’
Liverpool full-back and Lang’s Dutch team-mate Jeremie Frimpong told Dutch media after the game: ‘When I went to check on Noa Lang, a few people told me that half of his finger was torn off. “He was in a lot of pain.”
At the post-match press conference, Buruk said: ‘It is an important issue regarding his finger.
‘We will know exactly what happened when he is taken to hospital and a decision will be made if he needs urgent surgery there.’

It was unclear whether there was anything dangerous about the ad hoarding or whether it was just an unfortunate accident.
In the match itself, Liverpool produced one of their most impressive performances of the season to comfortably close the deficit from the first leg.
Dominik Szoboszlai put in a Man of the Match display, scoring the first goal before winning the penalty that Mo Salah missed.
Hugo Ekitike doubled the lead in the second half before Ryan Gravenberch added a third and Salah slotted a trademark strike into the top left corner for the fourth.
The Reds will face PSG in the next round.
Afterwards, Arne Slot stated: ‘If you get to the final stages of the Champions League, one thing you know for sure is that you will face PSG because they are an incredible team.
‘We had difficult matches against them last season, it was a great match at Anfield’ [PSG knocked them out on penalties] ‘Best game I’ve managed in my career, that’s how football should be played, both teams just trying to entertain the fans.’
We were the only team that took them to extra time and penalties. However, they showed that they did not lower their standards this season. They were unlikely to improve, but so far they’ve been very impressive.
But tonight we showed that we can perform at last season’s levels and that gives me confidence. ‘I don’t think they’ll be that happy to play for us after seeing our performance tonight.’
