Benjamin Netanyahu hinted that a ground strike would be needed to topple the Iranian regime, telling Trump and the world that air strikes alone won’t get the job done.
Israel is still “trying to create the conditions” for the collapse of the Islamic Republic, the Israeli prime minister said. He said Iranian leaders had been “eliminated” – before making clear what he believed should come next.
“You can’t make a revolution from the air, that’s true,” he said. “There has to be a core component. There are many possibilities for that… I take the liberty of not sharing all those possibilities.”
Netanyahu rejected allegations that he was “dragging” the US into war with Iran and insisted the conflict had broad international support, even if world leaders were reluctant to say so publicly. “I’ve been talking to dozens of world leaders,” he said, and they have privately supported the war. “We are fighting for you.”
The prime minister said any Iranian attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz would fail and that Israel was ready to attack “as long as it takes”. He added: “I see this war will end much quicker than people think… But in war you have to grit your teeth.”
