Jay Slater’s mother says her son is still being trolled almost two years after his death.

The 19-year-old disappeared in a remote part of Tenerife on June 17, 2024, after going to a music festival with friends.

The coroner ruled that Jay’s death was caused by a traumatic brain injury sustained in a fall while he got lost in Park Rural de Teno.

Despite the decision, misinformation circulated on the internet. Jay’s mother Debbie Duncan said she was still being trolled “mercilessly” almost two years later as she campaigned for the government to introduce legislation requiring online platforms to crack down on misinformation targeting bereaved families.

A GoFundMe raised £72,791 before Jay’s family closed on donations and thanked supporters for allowing them to stay on the island until they could return their son’s body to England.
