UK and France seize Russian tanker suspected of flying false flag

According to officials, British and French forces seized an oil tanker belonging to the Russian stay-behind fleet.

In a post published on social media platform X on Friday, Mr. Macron wrote that the French Navy had seized the ship Deyna.

“These ships, which circumvent international sanctions and violate maritime laws, are war profiteers. They seek to make profits and finance Russia’s war efforts,” Mr. Macron wrote.

Local officials said that the French Navy boarded a Mozambique-flagged oil tanker in the Western Mediterranean after it was suspected that the ship, which set out from the Russian port of Murmansk, was carrying a false flag.

France’s Mediterranean Governorate said that the operation was carried out together with its British allies.
