UNI Office Sealed in Delhi After High Court Order

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Friday sealed the office of United News of India (UNI) on Parliament Street following the Delhi High Court’s order upholding cancellation of land allotment.
The police carried out the action at the Rafi Marg premises after the agency’s petition challenging the cancellation was rejected by the court.
The case concerns the Land and Development Office (L&DO) ordering UNI to vacate land earmarked for office construction. The allocation was canceled after the agency violated the allocation conditions and did not build in the area despite repeated notifications.
The High Court rejected UNI’s argument that the delays were due to financial constraints and pending approvals and allowed authorities to take possession of the property.
In a post on X, UNI claimed that there were irregularities during the sealing process.
“The sealing of the office of United News of India (UNI), one of the country’s oldest and most respected news agencies, has raised serious concerns about press freedom.”
He also alleged that staff were forcibly evacuated and not allowed to take their belongings and alleged misconduct by police personnel.
Police denied any wrongdoing, saying proper legal procedures were followed and the entire process was videotaped.
The buildings were sealed following the court order, with both parties offering different explanations of the enforcement process.
