Centre allocates Rs 450.53 cr for ‘Modernisation of State Police Force’ scheme in FY27

New Delhi: The Center has allocated Rs 450.53 billion for the next fiscal under the ‘Modernization of State Police Force’ scheme, Home Minister Nityanand Rai said in the Rajya Sabha.

Responding to additional questions during Question Hour, the minister said the 2025-26 budget estimate for this program is Rs 540 billion, while the revised estimate is pegged at Rs 225 billion for the current fiscal.

The expenditure till February 2026 is Rs 120.68 billion.

However, the expenditure is expected to increase after the review meeting with states and Union territories, Rai said.

He said the expenditure could rise to Rs 593 billion this fiscal.


The Minister asked the states to utilize the fund allocated by the Center under the scheme along with their own budgets. He pointed out that the West Bengal government has not made any expenditure.
“The objective of the plan is to support the efforts of states and UTs to strengthen police infrastructure by equipping police with necessary mobility, modern technology, weapons, communication equipment, forensic installation, etc. and construction, including police housing, in select areas such as Jammu and Kashmir, LWE-affected areas and riot-affected NE States,” Rai said in a written reply. approval by the states/UTs and approval by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, followed by tendering and procurement related procurement procedures completed by the states/UTs.

“Expenditures under the program are recorded upon completion of these processes and procurement of equipment/execution of works. Accordingly, a higher pace of expenditure is expected in the second half of the financial year (including the end of March),” the Minister said. he said.

Rai said his ministry is conducting a comprehensive review during 2025-26.

“In FY 2025-26 (to date), under this Plan, this ministry has approved special schemes amounting to Rs 2,600 billion and approved/released Rs 479.34 Million to states/UTs. These approvals have resulted in committed obligations extending beyond FY 2025-26,” he said.

Rai said 450.53 billion rupees have been allocated for the program in the Budget 2026-27.
