Mark Zuckerberg accelerates Meta’s ‘AI-native’ overhaul with strict AI coding targets for engineers: Report

Mark Zuckerberg is aggressively trying to turn Meta into an “AI-driven” company, and a newly leaked internal document lays out specific goals set to achieve that vision. According to a report by Business Insider, Meta set a goal for how much of employees’ daily coding tasks should be completed using AI tools.

According to the internal document cited by Business Insider, Meta collected AI adoption targets from different organizations for late 2025 and 2026. The document notes that Meta’s creation organization, which is responsible for building and maintaining core creative experiences, has set a goal for the first half of 2026 for 65% of engineers to write more than 75% of their committed code using AI.

The report states that committed code is code that is recorded and tracked in a project.

Similar expectations are emerging in other major departments. Meta’s Scalable Machine Learning organization, which focuses on AI models and infrastructure, has set a goal of achieving 50% to 80% AI-powered code by February 2026.

Meanwhile, the document also lists various company-wide targets for Q4 2025 for the central products division, which includes Messenger, WhatsApp, Facebook, among other key products. The goal of this section is for 80% of mid- to senior-level engineers to adopt general AI tools like DevMate, Metamate, and Google’s Gemini, and to focus on “tools adoption” rather than having a certain percentage of the code written by AI.

The document also states that 55% of all software engineer code changes must be “Agent Supported”.

He said 55% of code changes made by software engineers in centralized product organizations must be “Agent Assisted”.

Another goal stated in the document is for the Scalable Machine Learning Team to have 50-80% of the code written as ‘AI-powered’. The report notes that it is not yet clear whether the objectives listed in the document are also linked to performance reviews.

Responding to this development, a Meta spokesperson said in a statement to Business Insider: “It is well known that this is a priority, and we are focused on using AI to assist employees in their daily work.”

The company also noted that Meta’s performance program focuses on rewarding the impact of AI tools, not just usage.

Meta’s company vision based on artificial intelligence:

Zuckerberg’s plan to turn Meta into an “AI-driven” company has also been linked to the company’s use of AI bots to write reviews for colleagues. Another recent report from Business Insider had revealed that the company plans to give titles such as “AI Builder”, “AI Pod Lead” or “AI Org Lead” to many employees in its Reality Labs division.
