Prince Harry ‘hopes King Charles will invite Meghan and children to Sandringham this summer for family time’

Prince Harry is hoping his wife Meghan and their two children will be invited by the King for some “family time” at Sandringham this summer, according to reports.

The Duke of Sussex has only seen his father twice in two years, while six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet last saw their grandfather more than four years ago. The Duchess of Sussex was last in the United Kingdom when the couple attended Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.

Harry, who is currently awaiting a decision about his safety in the UK, said he would not feel safe bringing his family to the UK without the armed police protection that the Sussexes lost when they quit royal duties and moved to the US in 2020.

But the 41-year-old duke would reportedly welcome the King’s invitation to Sandringham, his estate in Norfolk, which he believes could bring his family along.

The friend of the 41-year-old man told Sunday Times: “If he had been invited by the King, he would have received a security suite that would automatically activate. He would have asked for an invitation to Sandringham. Would he go? It depended on who was there. If the King said, ‘Come and spend some time with the family,’ he would be happy about that.”

Harry last saw his father on September 10 last year, when they met for less than an hour at Clarence House for the first time in 19 months. A source close to the duke later told the newspaper: “He always loves seeing his father and wants to see him as much as possible.”

The pair are believed to have spoken many times since, despite Harry being in London for his ongoing court case against Associated Newspapers and not seeing his family. She and the Prince of Wales are still estranged.

Before meeting in September, Harry and Charles last met in person in February, when the duke made a transatlantic dash to see the monarch after hearing of his cancer diagnosis. But they spent just over 30 minutes together before the King left to recover at Sandringham. Charles is still receiving treatment for the disease.

Harry has previously spoken of his hopes for a “reconciliation” with his family, saying: “Of course some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course they’ll never forgive me for a lot of things.”

“But you know, I would love to make peace with my family,” he added, saying there was “no point in continuing to fight anymore.”

The Duke’s controversial autobiography, Spare, contained a number of allegations against the royal family. The book was released in January 2023 and further estranged Prince William from his brother, with allegations that he physically assaulted him. The highly publicized memoir covered the death of Prince Harry’s mother, Diana, as well as his sex life, drug use and time in the military.
